Within weeks of replacing Chairman Purnendu Chatterjee of TCG with state industry minister as the company’s MD, the Bengal government seems to have initiated a process to make top-level management changes at Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd. As the state government gets into the driver’s seat of Bengal’s showcase industrial venture, it is mulling the appointment of a joint managing director who will work alongside managing director Partha Bhattacharyya. HPL, standing at a loss of nearly Rs 900 crore in FY 2011-12, has never had a joint MD.
