With metals being substituted by engineering plastics in components of automobiles and growth of other user segment like consumer durable, office machines, telecommunication equipment etc., demand for ABS in India has seen a quantum leap.
Bhansali Engineering Polymers has embarked on an expansion and diversification plan, slated for completion by March 2007. The expansion is proposed at the company's captive manufacturing facility at Abu Road, Rajasthan. The first phase will encompass an increase in capacity of the company's core product acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) by 12,000 tpa by March 2006. ABS capacity is expected to rise to 200,000 tpa by March 2007.
The company also proposes to diversify into manufacture of SBR latex and saleable SAN at a vacated plant capacity at Satnoor (Rajasthan), with an ultimate capacity of 40,000 tpa. It aims to manufacture 7,000 tons of saleable SAN by March 2006.
