Taiwan's Chi Mei plans US$100 mln expansion in China

China's economy is booming and the petrochem sector seems to growing to meets ever increasing demand. To make inroads into the mainland's domestic market, the world's leading producer of ABS, Taiwan's Chi Mei Corp. plans to expand its petrochemical plants in China. The investment outlay is estimated to total to US$100 million and will encompass expansion of its petrochemical plants at Zhenjiang in the eastern province of Jiangsu. The project will increase ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) capacity at Zhenjiang to 350,000 tpa from 250,000 tpa. Construction of a new ABS production line will commence by the end of the year and is expected to commence production in 18 months. Plans to build a 40,000-50,000 tpa PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) plant in Zhenjiang by the end of the year are also underway.
