Bolivia plans US$3.45 bln in petrochem investments for 2008-13

In an effort to generate added value and employment, Bolivia's petrochemicals investments are projected at US$3.45 bln for the period 2008-13. The industrialization of natural gas through the petrochemicals industry is a fundamental priority in this direction, as per a report that defines the strategy. The strategy defines activities, programs and projects in the areas of methane and ethane. In the pipeline, is a 600,000 tpa ethylene/polyethylene plant 2013 to be located in Gran Chaco. The plant is to be built at an investment of US$1.55 bln between 2008 and 2013. The output could be utilized to meet the demand in countries such as USA, Mexico, Western Europe, China and India. The major project is a proposed 1Bt/y ammonia/urea plant in Gran Chaco province, for which programmed investments between 2008 and 2012 are US$1bn. Another project relates to the implementation of a petrochemicals complex for the production of fertilizers, of approximately 750 Mt/y, in Carrasco province.
