Borealis board agrees to invest €17 mln on PE plant in Finland

20-Dec-10
The supervisory board of Borealis has approved a €17 mln investment to upgrade its polyethylene plants in Porvoo, Finland. The project includes a new ethylene compressor as well as an upgrade of the monomer purification systems including all necessary auxiliary equipment. Mechanical completion is expected for autumn 2012. The result of the Porvoo plant upgrade will be a 15,000 tpa increase from the current total 240,000 tpa polyethylene production capacity. The new turbo compressor will require less maintenance and the new equipment will contribute to improving the operational reliability of the plant. “This investment is yet another milestone in Borealis’ strategy to improve its operational excellence and innovation capability,” said Khadem Al Qubaisi, chairman of Borealis’ supervisory board. “It underlines the important role that Borealis’ European operations have when it comes to the ability to develop cutting edge technology and products for the future.”
