Borouge to triple polyolefins capacity in the Middle East

13-Jul-05
Borouge, a 60:40 joint venture between Abu Dhabi's National Oil Company and Borealis, plans to triple PE and PP production to 2 million tpa. Borouge has awarded Foster Wheeler a project management consultancy contract for about US$2.5bn (€2 bn), for the expansion of the company's Middle East facility. The decision follows the completion of a feasibility study for the complex. This decision for expansion has been mainly driven by healthy market growth in the Middle East and Asia Pacific as well as robust demand for enhanced polyolefins based on the Pacific Borstar process technology. Polyolefin capacity will triple from 600,000 tpa to 2million tpa.
