In the last three years, Coca-Cola has invested US$600 million in Africa. Every day, around 44 million servings of Coca-Cola products are sold across Africa, which is three quarters of a billion cases every year. The Coca-Cola system is the largest private sector employer in Africa with approximately 100,000 employees working in its marketing and bottling companies. Coca-Cola's largest African markets are South Africa, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Kenya.
To keep up with increasing demand from Africa, Coca Cola's South African partner, Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI) has planned expansion. ABI distributes majority of Coca-Cola brand soft drinks in South Africa.
A consignment of about 106 moulds has been delivered by SIG Corpoplast to the soft drink division of SAB Ltd (ABI). ABI has placed the order for these moulds to produce PET bottles for products like Powerade, Sprite, Fanta and Coca-Cola, which will be sold in additional bottle sizes from 1 to 2 litres. This is regarded as SIG's second biggest mould deal in its history. The moulds manufactured at SIG's Moldtec plant in Essen, Germany shipped over a month ago are to be installed on ABI's 7 SIG Blomax stretch blow moulding machines.
