Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BPCL) has awarded contracts for the license and basic engineering of two new chemical plants to Lummus Technology, a part of global EPC firm CB&I. BCPL is a joint venture company of GAIL India Ltd., OIL India Ltd., Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. and the Government of Assam. BCPL's ethylene plant, which has a design capacity of 220,000 mtpa, will utilize Lummus Technology's proprietary ethylene technology. The downstream polypropylene plant, which has a design capacity of 60,000 mtpa, will utilize Novolen advanced gas-phase polypropylene technology. The two plants will be built in Lepetkata, Assam, India.
Ethylene, a building block in the petrochemical industry, is used to produce a variety of finished products, including plastics, fibers and resins. Polypropylene is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications, including packaging, textiles, plastic parts and stationery.
