Braskem and Venezuelan Pequiven mull joint production of PP

29-Jun-05
The Brazilian petrochemical company Braskem, that is shortly going to commence one of its Polypropylene plants in Paulínia is planning for another in Venezuela. This is an extension of Braskem's vision of expansion of its petrochemical segment to meet the growing demands for polypropylene in the region with a focus on cost competitiveness. Braskem, with an annual resin production of 5.8 million tons and the Venezuelan Pequiven are considered to have signed a memorandum earlier this year to evaluate joint business development opportunities in Venezuela. The two partners are to start studying the construction of a 4,00,000 tpa PP unit in the Petrochemical Complex of Tablazo, in Venezuela Along with the advantage of a strategis geographic location, Venezuela has the largest oil and natural gas reserves in Latin America, while Braskem is regarded as a market leader in thermoplastic resins in Latin America and is also speculated to be positioned amongst three of the greatest private industrial companies within the Brazilian capital.
