As per an order from higher authorities, Uri Shuster Israel Petrochemical Enterprises Ltd. has announced that it was shutting the plant of Carmel Olefins Ltd. The polymer plant, located in the Haifa Bay area, is being shut due to fighting in the north. The Haifa Bay area has been subject to Katyusha rocket fire from Hizbullah in Lebanon.
Carmel Olefins is equally owned by Petrochemical Enterprises and Oil Refineries Ltd., which has also greatly reduced production at its Haifa refinery since the fighting began.
An order from the IDF Homefront Command has called on all sensitive factories in the line of fire to reduce inventories to a minimum.
