The construction of an 800,000 tpa ethylene plant and downstream petrochemical facilities by China Petroleum & Chemical Corp (Sinopec) has been approved by National Development and Reform Commission. The capacity of downstream facilities will have 400,000tpa of polypropylene, 300,000tpa of high density polyethylene and 300,000tpa of low density polyethylene. China produced 7.55 M tonnes of ethylene in 2005.
