Ciba Specialty Chemicals' is in the process of building the antioxidant plant in Singapore's petrochemical center, to be completed by 2008. The investment outlay of US$100 million is Ciba's single largest investment in the region.
Over the past decade, Ciba has invested over US$382 million in Asia, recording a 50% growth in revenue since 1997. The new facility will increase the company's revenue generated from Asia, which accounted for about 30% of its total global sales last year.
Producing specialty chemicals like antioxidants is currently a US$5.65 billion annual business for Ciba. With demand for plastic-related products predicted to double over the next 20 years, the industry is tipped to see exponential growth, particularly in Asia.
