Midland, Michigan based Dow Chemical Co., the largest U.S. chemical company, expects double digit growth in sales in China in the next few years. The rapidly growing market of China is currently Dow's third-largest market, lagging behind USA and Germany. Dow recorded US$2.2 bln in sales in Greater China in 2004, nearly 40% higher than 2003. Dow projects that China has the potential to become its biggest market by 2030. Dow also plans to merge its China unit with other chemical companies in China, the details of which are undisclosed.
Dow is also conducting a feasibility study for a coal-to-olefins project with China's largest coal producer Shenhua Group and plans to set up a research and development center in Shanghai to help boost its growth.
