Dow Hyperlast is expanding the DIPRANE™ and HYPERLAST™ polyurethane elastomers product lines with the addition of VORASTAR™ TDI-based prepolymers from Dow Polyurethanes, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company. VORASTAR prepolymers, which will now be rebranded under the globally recognized trade names DIPRANE and HYPERLAST, enable the extension of the currently available range of quasi prepolymer systems. These prepolymers are distinctly suitable in areas where wear and tear and durability are critical application requirements, such as mining, material handling and a multitude of industrial uses. The product line expansion is the result of synergies realized through Dow's acquisition of Hyperlast Limited in May 2007.
HYPERLAST prepolymer systems predominantly based on polyether polyols produce elastomers and are said to have excellent dynamic performance and toughness, offering very good performance in cold and wet environments. The company says HYPERLAST prepolymer systems exhibit strong dynamic performance, resilience, hydrolysis resistance and performance at low temperatures and are suited for high speed/high load bearing applications and cold or wet environments or a combination of both. DIPRANE prepolymers, derived from polyester or polycaprolactone with TDI or MDI, produce tough, durable elastomers with excellent resistance to wear and tear, cuts, flex fatigue and organic chemicals. These are suited for applications including wheels, rollers and mining equipment such as screens, scrapers and conveyors, can be tailored to provide elastomers capable of excellent solvent resistance.
