Dow to associate with Chevron Phillips in Polystyrene

In line with the company's newest growth strategy, Dow Chemical Co has decided to form a polystyrene and styrene monomer joint venture with Chevron Philips. The move, which is subject to regulatory review and other approvals, will pair Dow in a 50-50 team with Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LP. Dow plans to contribute to the venture a styrene monomer plant in Camacari, Brazil, and six polystyrene plants -- Gales Ferry, CT; Ironton, Ohio; Joliet, IL; Torrance, CA; Cartagena, Colombia; and Guaruja, Brazil. Chevron Phillips Chemical will contribute a styrene monomer plant in St. James, LA, and a polystyrene plant in Marietta, Ohio The parties expect the transaction to be closed in H2-2007
