Dow Chemical Co. and Siam Cement PLC (Thailand's largest industrial group) will jointly build a US$1.1 billion petrochemical plant in Thailand's Rayong Province. Siam Cement is to hold 67% stake in the facility due to come on stream in mid-2010. The naphtha cracker will have a production capacity of 900,000 metric tpa of ethylene and 800,000 metric tpa of propylene from naphtha, condensate and liquid petroleum gas.
Siam Cement also plans to invest US$400 million to build a polyethylene and polypropylene plant using olefins derived from the naphtha-cracking plant.
