Verseidag Oy, the long serving provider of ballistic vests to police in Geneva, Switzerland, recently attended an information and training session at DuPont's European Technical Center in Meyrin, Switzerland. The sessions involved demonstrations of safety and protection related technologies like DuPont™ Kevlar® MTP™ (multi-threat protection) Technology and the new Kevlar® XP™ for ballistic protection. The Kevlar® MTP™ was demonstrated to show how it protects against bullets, knives and blunt trauma. Also, the new Kevlar® XP™ also was tested against bullets used by the Geneva police in their service weapons and demonstrated its unique performance by stopping bullets at the third layer of the ballistic pack.
Verseidag Oy has been a DuPont customer for the past 12 years, serving as the provider of ballistic vests to police in Geneva, Switzerland. Fibers of Kevlar® consist of long molecular chains produced from poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide. The chains are highly oriented with strong interchain bonding, which results in a unique combination of properties. The new Kevlar® XP™ new patented technology provides approximately 15% reduction in backface deformation, 10% reduction in overall weight and superior ballistic performance in a 100% Kevlar® solution, the company claims. Tests show that Kevlar® XP™ typically stops bullets within the first three layers of a vest designed with a total of 11 layers. The remaining layers of Kevlar ® XP™ absorb the energy of the bullet, resulting in less trauma to the vest wearer.
