Restaurants may get an eco-friendly alternative to plastic cutlery in the form of a new generation of natural plastics made from agricultural raw materials. A plant is being built in North America with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons for a material that can withstand hot liquids, grease and oils, yet will biodegrade when disposed of. The plastic has a variety of applications in packaging including coated paper, film and molded goods.
