Egypt has announced plans to build a refining, petrochemicals, power/desalination complex in Kafr al-Shaikh. The investment outlay is estimated at US$ 9.5 billion.
The complex will be designed to refine 350,000 barrels of crude per day, produce 6.7 million tpa of diesel oil, 3.5 tons of gasoline, 1.2 tons of aviation fuel and 240,000 tons of butane gas. The complex will comprise five petrochemicals projects to produce ethylene, polyethylene, propylene, styrene, polystyrene, ethylene glycol, and an aromatics complex to produce zylene and parazylene, as well as a power/desalination plant.
