The European Commission has set August 23rd as a deadline for its inquiry into Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd, Itochu Corporation and Toyo Ink Manufacturing Co. Ltd's proposed acquisition of UK's AK&N - engaged in manufacture and marketing of thermoplastic compound materials. The deal is being examined under the EU's 'simplified' merger review procedure for cases which the commission believes do not pose competition concerns.
