Force Majeure declared by Shin-Etsu on PVC, VCM

08-Jun-07
Shin-Etsu PVC is likely to uphold 'force majeure' on VCM and PVC at least until 9 or 10 June 2007. The European subsidiary of the Japanese vinyls producer declared 'force majeure' (FM) for open VCM orders on 21 May, after the 620,000 tpa plant at Botlek, The Netherlands, was forced to shut down due to a defective compressor. On 29 May, the company declared FM on PVC from the 450,000 tpa plant at Pernis caused by stalled PVC production due to the VCM shortage.
