Formosa Plastics Corp is considering building a plant using shale gas in the US state of Louisiana with capacity to produce 1.2 mln tpa of ethylene. The investment outlay will depend on results of further studies to be conducted to evaluate the project, as per Taipei Times.
To take advantage of cheap shale gas in the US, the company is planning to invest US$3 bln in Texas to set up a facility that would produce 2 mln cubic meters of gas annually, 1.2 mln tons of ethylene, 600,000 tons of propylene and 400,000 tons of high-density polyethylene. The project is expected to be completed in Q1-2017.
