Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp. is mulling a 2-4 week long shutdown of its 1.2 mln tons No. 3 unit to repair a mechanical fault. To cork the supply gap, and benefit from this years’ 19% rise in prices, the company is considering the restart of its 700,000 tpa No. 1 ethylene plant in March. Formosa is currently operating the faulty No.3 unit at 70-75% capacity due to the mechanical glitch, compared with full capacity in early February.
