Formosa Plastics profits to rise due to falling costs

15-Jun-07
Formosa Plastics Corp., the world's number two PVC manufacturer, has seen a rise in profits this year attributed to a fall in costs due to rise in capacity utilization. Increased supplies of ethylene from affiliate Formosa Petrochemical Corp. will help the company boost capacity utilization. Sales of PVC for the year is projected to rise 12% to 1.22 million tons this year from 1.09 million in 2006. Formosa Petrochemical has commenced production at its third ethylene plant in western Taiwan's Mailiao last month, boosting the company's annual capacity of the chemical by 1.2 million metric tons to 2.94 million. Formosa Plastics Corp. plans to increase annual PVC capacity in Ningbo, China, by 100,000 metric tons, from current capacity of 300,000 tpa.
