State owned Gail (India) Ltd has expressed concerns regarding its projects with Iran, which are enmeshed in various geo-political issues leading to uncertainties regarding their future.
GAIL's interests in this sector in Iran include:
*In 2005, Gail and the National Petrochemical Company of Iran entered into an agreement to set up a gas cracker unit in Iran at an investment of Rs 8,000-10,000 crore.
*A pending joint venture upon completion of a pre feasibility report on the proposed one million tpa petrochemical plant to bet set up in South Pars Zone in Iran's Assaluyeh.
* A liquefied natural gas (LNG) import agreement with Iran for 7.5 million tonnes of LNG starting 2009-10 for a period of 25 years.
*Iran's commitment to give Indian firms developmental rights in two of its producing oil fields - Yadavaran and Jufeyr.
* Participation by GAIL in the multi billion dollar Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline.
