German machinery industry on an upswing on robust domestic demand

18-Jun-07
German plastics machinery manufacturers have reversed 2005’s decline of 7.3% with a 5.5% growth recorded in 2006. Value of core plastics machinery produced in Germany rose to €4.876 bln. However, these figures do not compare with the spectacular 14.1% growth recorded in 2004 at a value of €4.988 bln. A forecast of 4% for the year was overtaken due to export deliveries towards the end of the year. Injection moulding machinery was been the laggard, with growth recorded below the industry average, growing just 1.5% at a production value of €868 mln. Market share of injection moulding as well as extrusion are pegged at 17.8%, blow moulding machines at 6.6%, foam machines at 5.9% and thermoforming machines at a 3.5%. VDMA has forecast a 3-4% growth in production value and 5% growth in the value of incoming orders for 2007.
