After acetylene, it is the most simple alkene and unsaturated hydrocarbon. Ethylene is widely used in the Chemical industry to produce other raw materials which are in turn used for various end-use applications. The methods of production of ethylene include steam cracking of paraffinic hydrocarbons or by separation from refinery gas. The most common feedstock for ethylene manufacturing are naphtha and light gas oil, which are by-products of crude oil refining, other feedstock include gases such as ethane, propane and butane, which are obtained from NGLs.
