Groundbreaking ceremony held for Shell's newest integrated petrochem facility

The groundbreaking ceremony, signaling the start of building work, was held on Bukom Island, Singapore for Shell's newest integrated petrochemical facility, the Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex (SEPC). Start-up is estimated in 2009-2010. SEPC represents Shell's largest ever chemicals investment in Singapore. Upon completion, the facility will include a new world-scale 800,000 tpa ethylene cracker on Bukom Island and a 750,000 tpa Mono-Ethylene Glycol (MEG) plant on Jurong Island using Shell's proprietary technology. The project scope also includes modifications and expansion of the Bukom refinery.
