Poland's state-controlled refiner Grupa Lotos SA is joining hands with chemical producer Zaklady Azotowe Tarnow to build a petrochemical plant in the country. Construction of the plant will cost 5-6 billion zlotys (US$1.6-1.9 bln), construction is slated to commence in 2014 or 2015, with plant completion expected by 2018. The new plant would be located adjacent to the Gdansk-based Lotos refinery that will supply required feedstock, as per Dow Jones Newswires. The project shows the government's push to encourage joint ventures by Poland's many state-controlled companies, a legacy of the communist era, is bearing fruit.
