Higher fuel prices have led to a rise in the cost of Assam Gas Cracker project from the original estimate of Rs 5,460.61 crores. State-run GAIL India Ltd. has sought government permission to revise the project cost upwards by Rs 200 crore for the integrated petrochemical complex. The complex is proposed to be set up at Lepetkata in Dibrugarh, and is to be implemented by a joint venture company of GAIL holding 70% equity, and Oil India Ltd, Numaligarh Refinery Ltd and the Assam government holding the balance 30%.
Of the total cost, GAIL's share was Rs 3,100 crore, which has now increased due to a 2.5% rise in fuel price, besides higher financing cost.
