Huntsman gets approval for repair and restart of Port Arthur olefins facility

Board of Directors at Huntsman Corporation has approved of plans for repair and restart of the Port Arthur, Texas manufacturing facility that was damaged in a fire this April. The total cost of the clean-up, engineering and rebuild is estimated at US$110 million. The Shaw Group of Baton Rouge, LA has been shortlisted as the general contractor and will be responsible for all aspects of engineering, procurement and construction. Maintenance work that was scheduled to be done during a 2010 turnaround and inspection will also be brought forward to coincide with the repair work. The maintenance work will not extend the time required to repair and restart the facility, with an annual production capacity of 1.4 billion pounds of ethylene and 800 million pounds of propylene
