Methanex Corp., the world's largest producer of methanol, plans to resume production at its Waitara Valley plant in New Zealand. Continuing robust demand coupled with planned and unplanned supply outages, have put a strain on methanol inventories that are currently at extremely low levels. Tight market conditions are expected to continue over the next year also, hence the company has planned resumption of production to meet increased demand for the petrochemical made from natural gas. The plant has the capacity to produce 530,000 metric tpa of methanol.
