India and Kazakhstan have started the first round of talks to explore prospects of jointly building a petrochemicals and fertilizer complex in Kazakhstan. The possible location could be at the Caspian harbour-city of Atyrau along the North-South energy and trade corridor spanning Russia to the Indian Ocean. The country is Central Asia’s biggest economy, and the venture is being explored to tap its gas reserves.
At a Inter-Government Council meeting, the country has pledged gas supplies for such a complex.
