Invista plans to produce nylon at Chattanooga. The company’s decision still seems unclear about the location of the operation, and could be guided after meeting with customers to determine their specific needs. Other possible sites include Kingston, Ontario, and existing DuPont sites in South America and Europe.
DuPont sold Invista to Koch Industries in 2004, followed by a five-year noncompete clause. Currently the companies are embroiled in a legal battle in which Invista claims DuPont and another company teamed up to steal technology used to make feedstock. In a separate lawsuit, DuPont is suing Invista claiming theft of trade secrets related to its nylon engineering resins.
