Japan's Sanyo Petchem naphtha cracker restart delayed

25-Apr-06
Japanese petrochemicals maker Sanyo Petrochemical Co. has delayed the restart of its 450,000 tpa naphtha cracker in Western Japan on discovery of an ethylene leak. This has delayed the start up of the plant, which closed in mid-March for a planned month-long maintenance shutdown. The Japanese major has not yet set a date for attempting to restart the Mizushima cracker. News of the outage had its impact on the Asian naphtha market- The restart failure has pushed down the naphtha market further as the naphtha is currently much oversupplied.
