Yanbu National Petrochemical Co. (Yansab) - an affiliate of Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (Sabic) has signed a letter of intent with Shaw Stone & Webster Inc. for the detailed engineering, procurement, and construction of a 135,000 tpa butene and aromatics plant (250,000 tpa of benzene, toluene and xylene mixtures) at the large Yansab petrochemicals complex under development in Yanbu Industrial City, Saudi Arabia.
This is the second draft deal with Shaw Stone & Webster for units at Yansab, and also completes the contractual process for all Yansab plants. The Yansab complex is expected to go on stream by 2008 with total capacity exceeding 4 million tpy. This includes 1.3 million tpa of ethylene, 400,000 tpa of propylene, 900,000 tpa of polyethylene, 770,000 tpa of ethylene glycol, and 500,000 tpa of polypropylene and 400,000 tpa of butane, benzene, xylene and toluene mixtures.
