Kazakhstan to revive its petrochemical industry

09-Sep-05
Kazakhstan has the advantage of great volumes of gas available at potentially attractive prices. The Government of Kazakhstan, in pursuit of revival of the petrochem industry, is in the process of evaluating the possibilities and avenues available. As a first step, the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning has worked the General Plan of Petrochemical Production in Kazakhstan to be implemented by Nexant Ltd. and KATEK. The General Plan of petrochemical production is scheduled for 15 years, and has earmarked about US$ 7 bln as investments in this sector. In this connection, realization of the General Plan needs Government's support, in particular guarantees of raw supply on attractive prices, certain privileges for investors and ensuring base infrastructure where necessary.
