Despite a significant dip in propylene feedstock prices in Asia and the USA, Acrylonitrile (ACN) spot prices in Asia are likely to remain high due to limited ACN availability and strong demand.
Unexpected outages and closures in Europe, USA and Asia have tightened global ACN supply. Saratov, Russia-based Lukoil and the USA's DuPont recently experienced technical problems. Scheduled shutdowns by BASF in the UK, Cytec in Louisiana, USA, and Repsol in Spain, have also aggravated the situation. In Asia, maintenance outages were conducted by Chinese manufacturers Fushun Petrochemical, Jilin Petrochemical, and Shanghai Petrochemical in May 2007 and Jun 2007, while Taiwan's China Petrochemical Development Corp was down for a turnaround in early Jun 2007.
