The Dow Chemical Company's UNIPOL(tm) Process is to be licensed to the Russian polypropylene plant owned by Lukoil-Neftekhim having a capacity of about 120,000tpa to produce impact-resistant and low-temperature PP. It is to involve an investment of about $70m (E58m) and create more than 400 jobs in Budennovsk.
Construction on this PP plant, a part of the Stavrolen petrochemical complex which is to make use of Dow's UNIPOL process has spanned to about 20 years. It is estimated to have begun in 1986, stopped in 1995 when state funding ceased and to have restarted in January this year. The plant is scheduled for completion next year.
