Italian engineering group Maire Tecnimont SpA and South Korea's GS Engineering & Construction have signed a joint US$900 mln contract to build an oil refinery plant in Russia. The two have been awarded the contract by Taneco, a unit of Russian oil firm Tatneft. The value of Maire Tecnimont's contract will be US$500 mln.
The plant, to be located at Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, will have a capacity of 150,000 bpd and is targeted for completion by April 2011. The project includes a 151,000 tpa aromatics complex producing paraxylene, a 1.1 mln tpa naphtha hydrotreater, a 500,000 tpa kerosene hydrotreater and a diesel-hydrodesulfurisation facility of 1.6 mln tons capacity.
