Makers of soya-based BiOH® polyols start European sales office

04-Oct-08
Cargill's biobased polyurethanes business-the developer of BiOH® line of soya-based polyols-has opened a sales office in France to serve its fast-growing European customer base. The office will manage ordering, customs clearance and delivery logistics for the company's BiOH® line of soya-based polyols used in manufacturing flexible foam for the furniture, bedding and automotive industries. This will provide for rapid responses to customers and a highly secured supply of the soya-based BiOH® polyols. The opening of European sales office coincides with Cargill's upscaling its industrial polyol manufacturing capabilities by opening a US$22 mln plant in Chicago. Derived from natural vegetable oils such as soybean oil, BiOH polyols help flexible polyurethane manufacturers reduce their environmental footprint and market their choice to downstream customers. A preliminary life cycle analysis indicates that replacement of petroleum-based polyols with BiOH polyols results in 36% less global warming emissions, a 61% reduction in non-renewable energy use, and a 23% reduction in the total energy demand.
