Malaysia's Petronas closes PE plants at 2 complexes on demand dearth

09-Dec-08
Facing a dearth of petrochemical demand and down-sliding orders, Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has brought shutters down at its polyethylene plants in Kertih (Terengganu) and Gebeng (Pahang) petrochemical complexes, Malaysia Star reported. The two sites house production facilities for PE, PP, PVC, aromatics, olefins, ethylene derivatives and ethylene. Petronas - BP Chemicals JV operates Kertih-based PE plant while the Malaysian company has partnered with Germany's BASF AG for several production facilities based in Gebeng.
