Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) expects to restart Hazira gas plant that was marooned in floods caused by incessant rains in Gujarat on August 21. The shutdown tripped half the country's gas supplies.
Currently, water has receded at Hazira and equipment and experts have been mobilized as the clean up operation is on in full swing. The process of repairs of the plant and start operations in phased manner has been expedited.
ONGC had to shut its Bassein, B-55 and Panna/Mukta and Tapti gas fields on August 8 as water marooned Hazira complex could not take any gas. About 40.5 million standard cubic meters per day of natural gas went out of the system as a result of the closure, affecting operations of industries. ONGC's Hazira produces 1,650 tons of LPG, 3,350 tons of aromatic naphtha, 417 tons of kerosene and 48 tons of diesel and supplied 40.5 mmscmd gas to Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishapur (HVJ) pipeline for shipment to industries in the north.
