Mitsubishi Chem shuts naphtha cracker a day after restart

13-Sep-06
A day after the start up of its 375,000 tpa naphtha cracker following an unplanned shutdown in August, Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. has shut the plant due to a technical problem. The restart process for the No. 1 cracker at Kashima, that had been shut on Aug. 19 for inspections due to technical problems, had been initiated on Sunday. The unplanned shutdown from Aug. 19 until Sept. 10 resulted in an estimated reduction of ethylene output by about 25,000 tonnes.
