To address the dual threats of overcapacity and sluggish demand in its styrenics business, Total plans to restructure its petrochemicals sites in France, and invest EUR 400 million by 2011 in Gonfreville and Carling in France.
Total's Gonfreville site will become the center of it's European styrene production, where production capacity would be increased while the Carling styrene plant is closed. The investment in Gonfreville and Carling sites will upgrade and remodel them to improve their performance.
