Mitsubishi Chemical expects to restart naphtha cracker at Mizushima

29-Jun-15
Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Corp expected to restart its naphtha cracker at the Mizushima plant at the end of the previous week. The cracker has been shut since May 20 for scheduled maintenance. It's ethylene-making capacity was raised to 570,000 tpa from 493,000 tpa during the maintenance. The expansion comes as Mitsubishi Chemical and Asahi Kasei Corp are set to integrate their naphtha-cracking operations from April 2016 amid falling domestic demand and cheaper imports from Asia. Asahi Kasei's 504,000 tpa Mizushima naphtha cracker will be shut next February for maintenance, after which it would be scrapped.
