Mitsui Chem to defer naphtha cracker maintenance to 2007

Mitsui Chemicals Inc., Japanese petrochemical major, has plans to defer the regular naphtha maintenance shutdown at its plants in Ichihara and Osaka scheduled for 2006 until 2007. Nameplate capacity at Ichihara is 553,000 tpa and at Osaka is 455,000 tpa. In case the maintenance shutdown is rescheduled, the annual capacity for 2006 will rise at the Ichihara plant to 612,000 tons and at Osaka to 500,000 tons. Mitsui had shut the Ichihara plant for about 40 days in July and August and Osaka plant for about a month in June and July in 2005. Mitsui will conduct regular maintenance, required once every two years in 2007.
