11-Oct-06
Japan's Mitsui Chemicals has launched Mitsui Chemicals Singapore Technical Centre- its first overseas research centre in Singapore. It will be co-located with A*STAR's Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences on Jurong Island. Mitsui and A*STAR started research activities together two years ago. Mitsui aims to be the first in the world to produce aromatics, like benzene, from natural gases. The company has plans to speed up the processing of pharmaceutical intermediates, which it expects to launch within two years. Mitsui expects to begin commercial production of its aromatics technology within five years.
