New low-chlorine PPS resin grades for electronics & electrical industry

27-Nov-08
Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) Engineering Polymers group has introduced two new Ryton® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) resin grades with chlorine content of less than 900 parts per million in anticipation of low halogen content standards for the electrical, electronics and semiconductor industry. According to the company, Ryton® R-4-280 is a 40% glass-filled PPS, offering electronics and electrical component manufacturers a strong resin well suited for connectors and other hard disc drive (HDD) structural applications while Ryton® R-7-140 is a 65% glass and mineral-filled PPS for applications where dimensional stability and electrical properties are crucial. The company Ryton® PPS grades exhibit excellent flow and low shrinkage for precision molding of connectors and sockets and superior stiffness and mechanical integrity for reliable assembly. Additionally, all Ryton® PPS compounds have UL94 V-0 flammability ratings without the use of flame retardant additives. These Ryton® PPS grades will be made widely available with the completion of Chevron Phillips Chemical's new plant in Borger, Texas, scheduled for early 2009.
