28-Jun-05
Sao Paulo is to witness the commencement of a Polypropylene plant shortly, as a result of a partnership between Braskem (60%) and Petroquisa (40%). This in line with the company's vision for the petrochemical segment - to selectively expand its participation in Brazil and South Cone, with emphasis on new projects to serve growth in the Brazilian market. This plant aims to meet the growing demand for polypropylene with a focus on cost competitiveness. Propylene feedstock to this plant is to be supplied by Petrobas. Operations of the plant to be situated in Paulínia, are scheduled to commence towards the end of 2007, with an initial production of 300,000 tpa, at an investment outlay estimated at US$ 240 million. Petróleo Brasileiro's Executive Board and the Board of Directors of its subsidiary, Petrobras Química S.A. ("Petroquisa"), have approved this association with BRASKEM to invest in a modern and competitive PP unit.
